A former chemical analyser at the forensic science laboratory in Kalina who deposed as a witness in actor Salman Khan's alleged hit-and-run told the court on Thursday a fact about the case which hadn't been revealed until now.
The witness claimed that JJ hospital's form for detection of alcohol level in the actor's blood sample mentioned the sample's quantity as six ml, but when the police brought the vial to the lab, it weighed only four ml.
When the defence questioned the witness if he informed his senior about it, the witness replied in the negative, claiming such an occurrence was not unusual.
The witness was working at the lab till 2002; from 2003, he was transferred to the Pune branch and was a few days away from retiring.
When the witness approached the court, he was accompanied by two lab officers, which the defence objected to. Advocate Shrikant Shivade, appearing on behalf of the actor, addressed an application to the court, pleading with it to direct the officers to not attend the trial on the ground that they might have accompanied the witness to help the prosecution's case. However, special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat opposed the defence's contention, claiming the court is open for all and the officers can't be asked to leave unless the court puts a ban, or directs the police to screen people before they enter.
