Superstition is stupidity says Yogaraj

Director-lyricist Yogaraj Bhat is an outsider to the film industry despite being one of Sandalwood's most revered filmmakers. "Almost everyone in the film industry believes in some superstition or the other, it's like a disease, but I believe that being superstitious and stupid are one and the same. I have faith in science," says the atheist director. After observing that most people are obsessed with vaastu, including his friend, music director V Harikrishna, Yogaraj decided to address it through a film.

"Vaastu is a big business now. Everyone thinks twice before going somewhere or doing something based on elements like vaastu. And if the location of a particular place happens to be flawed, irrespective of what people do, it bothers them greatly, which in turn affects their functioning and productivity. After observing all this, I began to wonder why people believe in vaastu and how it came about. Once I thought of the various loopholes in these beliefs, I decided to give them cinematic representation," says the director. His film, Vaastu Prakaara, mocks the idea of vaastu and presents it in a comic manner. "Everything Indian is valued abroad.

So the plot will see the protagonists — Jaggesh and Rakshit Shetty —team up to sell the idea of vaastu to con foreigners, which makes the film hilarious," says Yogaraj, adding, "In the end, the message is that vaastu is not in a building, it is all in the mind. In fact, this film will probably solve problems for those whose homes are 'not according to vaastu'."So, considering most people are superstitious in the industry, was it difficult for Yogaraj to shoot with his team? "No, not at all. They probably didn't bother me knowing how unusual my beliefs are," he says. However, considering that the filmmaker announced his first Hindi film long ago and is yet to go on floors, we wonder if Mumbai's vaastu didn't suit the director, to which he laughs and says, "There's some very good news on that front that I will reveal soon."
