Real Madrid has slammed UEFA presidentMichel Platini for his proposal thatCristiano Ronaldo shouldn't win the Ballon d'Or award next year.
Platini previously stated that the annual prize should be awarded to one of Germany's World Cup-winning squad. In response, Real Madrid released a statement expressing that they are surprised at his repeated declarations favouring his choice of the winner of the Ballon d'Or.
The statement added that strictest impartiality should prevail, especially since he is heading UEFA. It further said that their forward striker Cristiano Ronaldo is equally deserving of the award as he had his best ever professional year individually, the BBC reported.
Scoring 48 goals in 45 matches this year, Ronaldo helped Madrid win the Champions League, Spanish Copa Del Rey and UEFA Super Cup last season.
Ronaldo is reportedly billed as favourite to retain the prestigious award, which he won last year.
