Karnataka chief ministerSiddaramaiah has joined the growing procession of Congress leaders to advise party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Siddaramaiah, who is the only remaining Congress CM of a large state, has said that Rahul needs to be more assertive and should engage more with people.
The Karnataka CM's comment amounts to acknowledgment that Rahul continues to be a reluctant leader while it is also seen as defiance of the party's diktat that senior leaders should refrain from advising the Gandhi scion in public.
Annoyed over several senior leaders' advice to the party's top leadership, Congress last week issued a fresh gag order asking them not to air their views in public.
Recently, senior Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Hansraj Bhardwaj and Digvijaya Singh had issued statements that appeared to be questioning Rahul's style of functioning.
