Sandalwood - Film Review: Simhardi

Simhadri, the protagonist, loves two things; his cows and his sister. He saves both from all kinds of trouble. But when it comes to saving his sister from the family politics in her in-laws home, he is powerless. That is the gist of another 'kallu pachchi' (gut-wrenching) film that Sandalwood was famous for not so long ago. But since 'Simhadri'is the protagonist, he gets his share of romancing a girl (Soundarya Jayamala), show off his muscles, has a song praising himself (Blacky...blacky) and do the comedy scenes himself.

On the acting front, Vijay is no doubt one of the better actors in the industry. Ramesh Bhat shows his class in a few scenes. Padmavasanthi as a cliched mother-in-law and Suchendra Prasad as a 'chameleon schemer' do justice to their roles. Aishwarya is as good a sister could be while Soundarya's role is unlikely to help her career. Vijay and Shivamani both have a 'sister' film in their repository now. And that is the best thing about Simhadri.

Hopefully they will not try another anytime soon.
