Challenging Star Darshan Busy till 2016!

Darshan booked till 2016!
The actor stops giving dates, instead allots just numbers to producers

Actor Darshan has stopped giving the conventional 'dates' to filmmakers, instead, he is allotting them numbers. For the uninitiated, these are the actor's count of films he has starred as lead actor.
However, if his seven films as a small-time actor before Majestic are taken into account, he has already crossed the 50-film-mark with Bulbul. But Darshan wants to be different. The latest news is that his brother Dinakar Toogudeepa has completed scripting the 50th film for the actor. This will be his official 50th film which has been titled Sarvantrayami.

Effectively, this means the ready-for-release Ambareesha will be his 46th and Airavatha, the47th. This will be followed by Jaggu Dada, which will be funded by a Mumbai-based production house. The 49th will be Chakravarthi, to be directed by ChintanSarvantrayami will be launched in February 2016 on his birthday. The shooting will start later that year.

"It was after Sarathi that Darshan told me to get ready to direct his 50th film as hero. I have been working on the story since then. In fact, Darshan wanted me to direct his 25th film, but things did not fall in place back then," Dinakar said.

Dinakar says he is now ready with the storyline.

"The film will be made in 2016 and release in 2017. So there will be many changes based on the trends then. There is a little relief as we have finalised on what is called the one-line story of the film. It is a huge responsibility and since the name of the film was announced sometime ago and Darshan himself said it would be his 50th film.

Fans keep asking me about the film. But there is still time and after Airavatha, there are Jaggu Dada and Chakravarthi. I am a bit scared because people tell me usually milestone films (like the 25th or 100th) of stars do not work at the box office. We have the daunting task of disproving that." Sarvantrayami will have 90 per cent of the same technical team that worked on Sarathi.

Meanwhile, Dinakar is busy taking care of the distribution business of the family. "I took two years to write Sarathi. I believe a director can only make 5-10 good films in his career. So it does not matter if I make one film in two or three or even four years. Since I am not dependent on direction alone for my livelihood, I can take my time off."

Darshan acted in uncredited roles in films like Mahabharata, Devara Maga, Mr Harischandra and even a Tamil film before making his debut as a lead actor in Majestic in 2001. But he does not count films where he has made guest appearances when rolling out 'numbers' to producers.

It's all in the numbers, right?
