India is claiming to have penetrated critical Pakistani government websites, in preparation for possible strike commands from the government.
Additional Director- General of the National Cyber Safety and Security Standards, S Amar Prasad Reddy, said at the National Cyber Defence Summit 2016 that an Indian team of hackers has penetrated online infrastructure in Pakistan, including defence systems and a collection of gov.pk websites. “The moment we get the go-ahead, we will destroy these,” he said in a quote to the Hindu.
The anticipatory action reportedly began shortly after the Pathankot terrorist attack on January 2. Reddy claims the team in question is poised and ready to destroy critical government assets. In addition, when asked about the safety of India’s own websites, Reddy says teams and systems are already in place to guard the most crucial of assets. However, he also admits that India needs close to 10 lakh cyber security personnel to protect infrastructure in all states.
