Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has now created history. In more ways than one. Salman Khan returning as the much loved Prem from Rajshri films is enough to get the audiences excited about any film. With PRDP, Salman's joined by Sonam Kapoor and the result has been historic. The film which released a day after Diwali raked in huge moolah at the box office.
Sonam had clearly predicted, "Salman is there in the film so obviously it will open to some ridiculous numbers." Rightly so. The film has turned out to be the biggest opener for Salman Khan with as much as Rs 40.35 crore coming on its first day itself. Including the collections from the dubbed versions, the total opening day collections stand at somewhere around Rs 42 crore.
This means that PRDP has not only recorded Salman's highest opening day record but has also broken his previous best with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. His earlier film has recorded a Rs 38 crore collection on its first Sunday, which was the highest single day collection for any Salman film. This one has also shattered all the pre-existing records, when it comes to our Bhaijaan.
But there's one record PRDP has failed to break. Despite this being Salman's best opener till date, the film has failed to beat Shah Rukh Khan's record. The one with Happy New Year. SRK's HNY had netted in a whopping Rs 44.97 crore on day one and while the ticket prices for PRDP were on the higher side along with more screens, we believe a little less occupancy in the late night shows made the difference. Trade pundits had predicted PRDP to be the biggest opener of Bollywood and it just missed the target by a whisker.
