Avengers: Age of Ultron kicked off the first season of summer blockbusters with an estimated $187.7 million debut, ending Furious 7 four-week reign at the top.
The superhero movie also scored the second-highest box office debut of all time, reportedAce Showbiz. The sequel to The Avengers beat the first movie with its opening day numbers, earning $84.5 million on its release on Friday, May 1 compared to the first movie's $80.8 million.
It was just behind the all-time best opening day of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II which earned $91.7 million in its first day back in 2011. Avengers: Age of Ultron opening day gross is also the biggest ever for a superhero film.
