While other clothing lines are still focusing on the perfect shade of chartreuse for sweaters, Tommy Hilfiger has ventured into wearable technology with a pair of solar-powered jackets designed to help you out of power crunch situations.
With the support of Pvillion, the clothing line has launched limited-edition styled jackets for men and women that can charge electronic devices like your smart-phone or tablet by converting energy from a series of detachable solar panelsattached to the back of the jacket.
The jacket embedded with solar panels is both stylish and functional and the batterycontains enough power to completely charge a 1,500 mAh mobile device up to four times, if fully charged. The battery can also be charged from an external source.
As Tommy Hilfiger himself said, “We were inspired by the fusion of traditional design techniques with technical mountaineering references. We also thought about what the adventurer of today would need and want and how our customers are interacting with technology in a more integrated way than ever before.”
The jackets are available in select Tommy Hilfiger stores across Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia, and online at Tommy.com and costs $599.
