SA PA IN SCHOOLS LAUNCHED

SaPa in Schools launched

Bengaluru. SaPa in Schools is the new revolution in music education.  It’s a movement that recruits musicians who are passionate educators to take music forward to the next generation.  It believes that every child should have access to basic music education, because learning music has been proven to have so many benefits, especially among young children.

Dr L Subramaniam, noted violinist and founder of SaPa said at the press meet “Learning music has many recorded benefits including boosting creativity, building confidence, enhancing problem solving abilities and improving language reasoning and social skills. SaPa in Schools is tying up with schools in India and around the world to teach music to children as young as three as part of school curriculum. Students are taught Indian music and exposed to styles of music from around the world to help them open their minds to different cultures around the world”

SaPa in Schools is an initiative of SaPa, the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts, which was founded by India’s leading violinist composer Dr. L. Subramaniam and Bollywood Diva Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam.  Since 2007, SaPa has been a home for global music in India, and has hosted numerous workshops to expose Indian students to global music, and has taught elements of Indian music to a host of international students.

Bindu Subramaniam, Dean of SaPa said “With a primary focus on Indian classical music, SaPa also teaches western classical music.  The Academy admits students from the age of three, training them to be professionals.  SaPa has pioneered special teaching methods for children, through the SaPa Baby program, to help them discover the enjoyment of art, and develop a deep love for artistic endeavours.  For the first time, in the history of classical music, children as young as three are taught in a systematic and structured classroom environment”

Added Ambi Subramaniam, Associate Dean, SaPa “ It also has special programs for professional musicians of various cultural backgrounds to learn elements of Indian music including improvisation, composition, melodic and rhythmic structures. It organises special workshops and interactive sessions with creative personalities from all walks of life, from world famous blues musicians to instrument makers and encourages its students to understand and explore various artistic possibilities”

The Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts is run by the Subramaniam Foundation, a registered charitable trust, and headed by Dean and noted singer/songwriter Bindu Subramaniam, and Associate Dean and violinist Ambi Subramaniam.
