More IAS officers putting out information through WhatsApp

Following the example set by Astik Pandy sub divisional magistrate of Kalwan Tehsil who stated using WhatsApp to put out various government information, other IAS officers in the state have also started taking to social media and various Apps to put out official information. Dna had reported first the use WhatsApp by Astik Pandey and now it is fast becoming a trend in various districts in Maharashtra.
The divisional commissioner of Nashik, Eknath Rajaram Dawale has started a WhatsApp group which includes collectors of five districts , Nashik, Dhule, Nadurbar, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar. Messages sent out contain data and other valuable information which will be useful to all collectors. "As a society social media has a huge impact. The Google Drive was the first application used in our division for reporting events happening here. All tahsildars and BDOs are connected to it. Google Drive spreadsheet has also been found to be very effective because it gives real time data. We realised that there is information which required quick communication. So we started WhatsApp for communication which we found very effective. It transfers, text images and voice. Now all collectors and CEOs have their groups on Whatsapp," Dawale.

Official are using the social media to forward circulars, complaints from citizens. According to Dawale such letter uploaded on WhatsApp will reach filed officers immediately and soon action can be taken on it. For example Astik Pandy used Whatsapp to upload pictures of food served in the Ashramshala of Tribal department. The quality of food served started improving immediately.
According to officials the use of such social media is having a cascading effect in various districts. Various field officers and BDOs also are part of various such administration groups of WhatsApp which has improved things considerably at the ground level according to Dawale.
