The woman, an employee in a finance company in Gurgaon, told the police that the driver took her to a secluded area between Sarai Rohilla and Inderlok, raped her and dropped her home.
She also said when she resisted his advances, the driver threatened to sexually assault her with a rod and kill her.
The cab driver, identified as Gaurav, has abandoned the car in Mathura and has been on the run ever since. His phone, with a GPS system installed on it, is also switched off.
The woman had informed the police about the incident through a PCR call after reaching home and gave them the photograph of the driver and the cab's number plate.
"The woman clicked a photograph of the car's number plate and then made a PCR call to report the incident," Hindustan Times quoted the police as saying. The police took the woman for a medical examination, which confirmed that she was raped. An FIR was filed thereafter.
In her complaint, the woman told the police that after completing her shift at 7 pm, she along with her friends had gone to a restaurant for dinner. After dinner, one of her friends dropped her till Vasant Vihar from where she hired an Uber cab.
She had dozed off en route her home and when she woke up she found the car was parked in an isolated area. The driver had locked the cab doors and when the woman struggled and tried to shout, the driver thrashed and assaulted her.
After filing the complaint, the police are looking for the driver, who has been on the run since Friday night.
"A case has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. Raids are being conducted to nab the driver, who is in his mid-30s," police said.
The US-based private company Uber has suspended the cab driver accused of the crime.
"We became aware of the incident this morning. Safety is Uber's highest priority and we are working with the police as they investigate, and will assist them in any way we can," Uber mentioned in a statement released on Saturday night.
Despite several safety measures taken by the government and security promised by the cab companies, incidents of sexual crimes continue to be rampant in the capital city.
