Dibakar Banerjee is going to great lengths to make sure his upcoming period film set in 1943, Byomkesh Bakshy maintains a connect to history, even if it means the film will be delayed a bit. The first poster lauch was to happen in January, with now be out only in April.
The director has retained all the nuances of the era, paying careful attention to detail - be it the sets, the costume and the props used in the film. Initially, the film's first look was to be revealed on December 20 - it was on that day in 1943 that Japan attacked Kolkata (then Calcutta) with aerial bombs, which hit The Great Eastern Hotel. The first poster of the Detective Byomkesh Bakshy will be launched at this very location.
Dibakar shares, "In late 1942-early 1943, Calcutta was the last frontier of the British empire holding out against the Japanese invasion of Asia. As their bombs fell at the Calcutta dockyard and the Great Eastern hotel, history was being created and Calcutta stepped on to the world stage. It's right here, that Byomkesh's first adventure catapulted him from anonymity to dangerous fame. I can't imagine a more fitting place to launch the first look of my film than this hotel - which right on this day in 1943, would be full of chaos and mayhem as bombs fell on it, right here - seventy years ago - with Byomkesh probably on the hunt for a murderer not far away!"
