What\'s the truth?

Was Swastika Mukherjee's shoplifting act genuinely method acting or a publicity gimmick?
Swastika Mukherjee, till recently unknown in Hindi cinema, has ensured she is a recognisable name in Mumbai before her first Hindi film Dibakar Bannerjee's Detective Bhyomkesh Bakshy with Sushant Singh Rajput hits the screen.
Recently she was in news for shoplifting in Singapore. However, the Bong girl said that she was only indulging in a spot of method acting. She said that she was practising to be a spy by stealing jewellery in a Singapore shop.
But not everyone is ready to believe that. An actress who has worked with Sushant rubbishes this claim as "utter hogwash". "What is being suggested here? That she needs to steal to prove herself a spy? What would she do if she had to play a rape victim?" she asks.
A Bengali co-star of hers thinks Swastika "planned and orchestrated" the shoplifting scandal in Singapore to coincide with her debut in Bollywood. Says the co-star, "She is very clear in her head that she wants to be the the next Sharmila Tagore and Bipasha Basu combined. She realised Detective Bhyomkesh was Sushant's film through and through. She wanted her own portion of attention. She got it when the swiped ear-rings made news all across India."
A senior Bengali actress who was herself quite notorious in her times quips, "Forget shoplifting, Swastika would lift the entire shop to get attention."
The men in her life
Swastika has made news from the time she entered the Bengali film industry in Hemanter Pakhi. That's when she first met Parambrata Chatterjee. During the shooting of Brake Fail, she fell in love with Parmbrata (Vidya Balan's silent admirer in Kahaani). In spite of the fact that she was married to singer Pramit Sen, Swastika painted Kolkata purple with Parambrata. The tumultuous affair ended suddenly when Swastika's husband filed a case against Parambrata for criminal adultery. The actor called off the relationship through an email written to the actress.

Swastika has been closely linked with various other men including actor Jeet and her most recent relationship with Sumon Mukhopadhyay which ended with the actress attempting suicide in May this year. She was also seen in the notorious film Take One where she played an actress who shoots to notoriety with a nude scene.
Apparently, Sushant was advised by his girlfriend when he began shooting with Swastika for Dibakar Banerjee's film was, "Be very careful."
