The principal of Nirmala Rani Kannada Primary School in Malleshwaram here died after she slipped from the second floor of an under construction building on the school premises on Friday morning.
According to the police, Sister Noella (58) fell while she was climbing the stairs to inspect the construction work. As she reached the second floor of the five-storeyed building, which includes a basement, she slipped into the gap between the stairs and fell to the ground floor. Sister Noella died on the spot due to excessive bleeding after her head hit a stone.
A native of KGF, Sister Noella was working with the school for over five years.
The other sisters noticed that Sister Noella was not present for the mass. They checked her room but they found it locked.
They went around the school premises and found her lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of the under construction building.
They immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. The police later shifted her body for post-mortem and inspected the spot.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 am and no one was present in the building at that time. The police said there was no railing on the steps and Sister Noella could not hold on to anything when she lost balance.
This resulted in her falling to the ground floor. A case of unnatural death has been registered and investigation is on.
