Six persons were arrested for allegedly harassing five women in front of an ice-cream parlour on MG Road last Saturday night.
Mobile tower location technology helped track the men. The six accused were present at the spot where the women in a Toyota Innova were terrorized around 11.50pm, sleuths said.
Police commissioner MN Reddi said the swift action and arrests were meant to send a message that even small incidents of harassment would not be tolerated. "We caught all six and I'm happy the police team did its best in locating them and bringing them to book," Reddi said.
The arrested, in the 22-26 age group, are T Nagesh, a staff with a private developer from Whitefield, Harish, a driver from RT Nagar, Devaraj, a casual labourer, Kiran, a student, Satish, a driver, and Subramani, a provision store worker. The latter three are residents of Hosur.
A video of two of the men, shot by passersby, came in handy for the investigators.
Police sources said the six men were inebriated when they came to MG Road. "They drank together at a bar and moved to MG Road for some fun. They tried to terrorize the women and thought they wouldn't get caught," a police officer said.
"We're still questioning them. We have to complete the identification parade before the victims. We'll be checking their background," the officer added.
There is also a chance that one of the six may be freed as the complaint is against five youths.
A 27-year-old woman and her four friends in a Toyota Innova had stopped at an ice-cream on MG Road. When their driver stepped out to get their order, the five men stared at them, then tried to open the car door, their complaint said.
One of the women locked the doors using the central locking system. When one of the culprits tried to pull something out of his pocket, the women honked and shouted to get the attention of passersby. At this commotion, the men melted away in the dark. The women's friends drove around in another car, trying to locate them, but were unsuccessful.
