Noted singer S Janaki who has been awarded the Kannada Rajyotsava award not attended the function to receive the award on 1st November.
"Until the time we saw the news report about it, none of the Government officials have intimated her about the award," said Hema Prasad who is looking after the programmes of S Janaki.
Hema Prasad said "S Janaki is not an ordinary person. Now she is aged 76. Till now she has not got any state award from Karnataka for her songs. She had deserved it long back itself. Even now after announcing the Rajyotsava award there is no official intimation to her. Few have called her and informed about the award. Moreover she is in Chennai and is busy with other commitments. All of a sudden if the Government informs her to come and collect the award in a day it is not possible for her. She is not after awards. She has achieved a lot and has received lot of awards for her work. One thing Government could have done is to have intimated her early to be prepared. I think nobody would have objected to her name being in the list."
However, Janaki is not rejecting the honour. Hema Prasad said "Today she called me and said that if the Government calls her to attend the function I am to go and receive the award on her behalf.
