Mysuru Passport Seva Kendra begins

With the demand to set up a Passport Seva Kendra in city from the citizens of Mysuru, the Regional Passport Office, Bengaluru, began its two-day Passport Seva Camp for the first time in Mysuru on Saturday November 15.

Inaugurating the camp at ZP Office premises, MP Pratap Simha said that the camp was being conducted as a result of his continued perseverance with External Affairs Ministry and added that it would benefit the citizens of Mysuru, Kodagu, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

Pratap Simha also said that he would speak to the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on conducting similar camps regularly and also on setting up a permanent Passport Seva Kendra in Mysuru as there was a great demand in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Regional Passport Officer (RPO) P.S. Karthigeyan said the camp had received good response and added that he would put forward a proposal to set up a Passport Seva Kendra in Mysuru.

He also said that RPO was dispatching new passports within 30 days compared to previous 45 days. “We are also working towards completing the passport issuing process within 25 days in the days to come,” he added.

MLC G. Madhusudhan, present on the occasion, said that gazetted officers including Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and others were not attesting the Tatkal passport applications. “Tatkal applications for passport are applied in case of emergency situations and more over, the delay in Police verification has delayed the process of Tatkal,” he added.

Madhusudhan demanded that the passports in case of emergency be issued within 3-4 days.

He also demanded for a UK Consulate Centre in Bengaluru as many students from this region visited UK for higher studies.

Reacting to this, DC Shikha said that previously, there were many cases of Tatkal being misused by people and added, atleast 3-4 days were needed for verification of the person’s details before attesting.

When questions were raised regarding a travel agency booking the maximum number of appointments for two-day Passport camp and also collecting a fee of Rs. 500, MP Pratap Simha said he had no power to act as the registrations were done online.

The officials of RPO will verify the documents of 300 applicants who have come from Mysuru, Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts. Today being the first day, officials were seen giving instructions to the applicants on the passport issuing process. Few who had been given appointments for tomorrow had also come and officials had to send them back.

With the Passport Seva Camp receiving huge response, setting up of a permanent Passport Seva Kendra will definitely bring more smiles on the faces of the citizens of Mysuru and neighbouring districts.

Additional DC M.S. Archana, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal and others were present.
