Iranian-British woman gets year in prison for trying to watch men's volleyball game

British-Iranian student from London's famous School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) has been sentenced to a year in prison for trying to watch a men's volleyball match.

Ghoncheh Ghavami, 25 was found guilty of spreading anti-regime propaganda, her lawyer Alizadeh Tabatabaie said.

Iran banned women from volleyball games in 2012.

Britain has been trying to diplomatically resolve the shocking case at the highest level with prime minister David Cameron personally urging Iranian president Hassan Rouhani to intervene and release Ghavami.

Cameron told Rouhani to consider "the impact that such cases had on Iran's image in the UK".
