BENGALURU: The Seshadripuram police raided a private office which allegedly cheated around 1,400 people by collecting money, promising a pilgrimage to North India. It is estimated that the company, Sneh Foundation, has cheated people of around Rs 25 lakh.
DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil received a message on his Twitter account from a person, informing him that the foundation had collected money from people by promising them the pilgrimage. But the firm, after collecting money, kept postponing the dates. When the people sought refund, the firm allegedly did not return the money.
“Based on this information, Sneh Foundation’s office was raided. Preliminary investigation revealed that it had collected money from around 1,400 people, who wanted to go on Jain tours.
Some of them had paid the money in January, February and March this year. The firm had postponed the tour date several times. We have recorded the statements of around 60 people and have taken up a cheating case against the firm. We are investigating the case further,” Mr Patil said.
“The firm has collected Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 from each one. It is suspected that it has cheated people to the tune of around Rs 25 lakh. Those who are cheated by the firm can contact the Seshadripuram police,” the police said.
The police, however, have not arrested anyone. They are on the lookout for Jagadish Kumar Shah, a management staff of the firm, who is said to be absconding. Seshadripuram police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
