In a shocking incident, a class VII student was set on fire by unidentified people on the premises of Anand Nilayam government hostel at Enugonda village in Mahbubnagar district late on Tuesday night.
The student, Narendar, a resident of Narayanpeta, was set ablaze when he went to answer the call of nature. After hearing loud screams, other students in the hostel along with the cook and watchman rushed to the spot and doused the flames. He was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors advised him to be taken to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad. The boy sustained third degree burns. The victim said two persons came from nearby bushes, poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Hostel authorities suspect that he was set ablaze by some students as Narendar had allegedly stolen money from them when they went to school on Monday. The police have launched an investigation.
