Truecaller releases Truedialer app to replace the dialer on Android

Truecaller has released a new app for Android smartphones which is known as Truedialer. It intends to replace your stock Android dialer app. The app is available for free on the Google Play store.

The intention out here is to become a search engine or a yellow pages for contacts. The app taps in to Truecaller's vast database of phone numbers, which basically gives the user information about the number you are dialing. Originally, the idea of Truecaller was to provide its users a means to filter number. But now, after nailing deals with phonebook providers, Twitter, Yelp and other third parties, it is trying to become a search engine for contacts.
The original functionality of Truecaller remains, which means it still warns you if you are receiving a call from a known spam number. However, this functionality only works via the original Truecaller app.
"Truedialer's launch is a major milestone for the company from being focused on a single app. Users can expect Truedialer and Truecaller to complement each other to form the perfect phonebook experience," said Nami Zarringhalam, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Truecaller.
Until now, phone dial pads have not truly improved since the feature phone days. With the same infrastructure that powers Truecaller, our ambition with Truedialer is to replace the phone's phonebook app, and be invaluable to users, just as Truecaller has changed the way people receive calls and find contact information."
Some of the salient features of the app include an auto search delivering information about the number being dialled. It will automatically fill missing details about a contact with data from its database. At the moment the app is restricted to Android only.
More than the utility, it will be interesting how people react to the app as some people may find it to be invasive to their privacy.
