Microsoft Creates Fake Destiny Fragrance To Skirt Around Sony’s Exclusivity

As we’re sure many of you guys have heard by now, Bungie’s Destiny will have some exclusive features that will be limited to the Sony PlayStation platform. It is also because of that that Microsoft is not allowed to run advertisements related to Destiny as Sony also has an exclusive deal on the marketing rights of the game.
Given what a big deal Destiny is, you can see how not advertising the game would cause Microsoft to miss out on potential customers who might not be aware that the game is also available on the Xbox platform. That being said, Microsoft decided to skirt around the issue byadvertising a fragrance with the Destiny and Xbox logo on the bottle, as you can see in the image above.

Obviously the fragrance is not real, although we’d be curious as to what it could smell like. There was also accompanying text that read, “Thanks for smelling that something was up.” We should point out that the photo has since been taken down but we can’t be sure why. Perhaps Microsoft’s legal team realized that even “false advertising” like this still violated their agreement with Bungie.
Either way it’s still pretty funny, not to mention a pretty nice render of a fragrance bottle. Destiny for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One is expected to be released next Tuesday, so gamers on the Xbox platform, fret not if you don’t see Microsoft actively marketing the game.
